Sudipta comes from a family of artists which includes Jamini Roy (her grand-uncle, whose paintings are auctioned by Christies and Sothebys) and Meera Mukherjee India’s internationally acclaimed sculptress who studied in Paris and Scandinavia, 80 years ago.

Sudipta has studied art (painting) in Kolkata, and the University of Oxford.

She majored in English Literature from Kolkata University. She has degrees in Education from the same university, and studied Spanish in the reputed Mission School of Culture

The artist has held 23 exhibitions in Oman

1991 -1995: 10 exhibitions at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Muscat
1992: an exhibition at the Intercontinental Hotel with well known artists from India (B. Prabha and Vithal)
1994: At the Petroleum Development Oman Centre by invitation
1996: At the Majlis Gallery (now in Dubai)
2001: At the Hyatt Regency, organized by the Embassy of Netherlands in Oman
2003: At Bait Muzna Gallery in Muscat
2004 & 2006: At Bait al Zubair Museum
2008: Embassy of India, Muscat Oman
3 exhibitions organized by the National Association for Cancer Awareness in Oman. The proceeds from the sales were donated for the cause of cancer.(2005, 2010, 2014)
2010: Solo show at the Intercontinental Hotel, celebrating 40 years of Oman’s anniversary as a nation.

2012: Exhibition on the Forts of Oman” at Bank Muscat

  • Awarded at Basel Art Week for Philosphical Thought, June 2018
  • International Artist Carvaggio Award November 2018, at Milan Italy
  • International Boticelli Award February 2019, at Palazzo Borghese, Florence
  • Awarded the ‘First Diploma of Excellence’ at the Autumn Annual at Venice in 1998.
  • At the 2005 festival in Berlin she was selected among 25 artists worldwide to participate in the exhibition at Gallery 24.

Special Invitations

  • Invited as VIP delegate to the India Art Summit, Delhi 2009 and 2011AND 2012. Also invited as a Special delegate to Art Expo India 2009 at Mumbai
  • Invited to Art Dubai 2010and 2011,2012 as a VIP delegate
  • Invited to curate and judge several art showcases and competitions in Muscat.
  • Interviewed the curator of the Cobra Gallery from Netherlands at their show in Bait al Zubair in March 2015

Participation

The project was organized by the Nobel Prize winners Medecin Sans Frontieres, supported by Guiness’ Book of World Records

  • Attended the Learning Modules conducted by Aveek Sen, Mayank Mansingh Kaul and the upcoming talk by Samson Young at Experimenter Gallery Kolkata.
  • Participated in the attempt to create the world’s longest painting at Dubai, in November1999, with international artists like Robert Rauschenberg.

Commissioned Works

  • Commissioned to paint for the residences of senior executives and collectors from Oman, Bahrain, Dubai, India and Spain, France, Luxemburg and the USA
  • Commissioned by the Al Araimi Complex in Oman to paint for the “Festival of America” held under the auspices of the Embassy of the United States of America in April 1996.
  • Designed and painted sets for shows at the Al-Bustan Ritz Carlton Hotel, Muscat, completely by herself.
  • Paintings chosen as donations at important occasions organized by the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
  • Paintings were auctioned for the National Association for Cancer Awareness.
