ABOUT THE ARTIST

For the Indian Artist Sudipta Choudhry art has been a way of life. Coming from a family of internationally recognized artists like Jamini Roy who is an integral part of India’s National Art Heritage and one of the earliest Indian artists to be reviewed by Time and Newsweek magazines, and also exhibited at the famous ACA Gallery in Manhattan ,New York in 1953. Meera Mukherjee, one of India’s pioneering sculptresses, who trained in Munich, Germany very early on, when indigenous Indian women had never thought of going abroad for studies in art is the artist’s grand aunt.

Movement is a fixture in her life. Having had several exhibitions, in New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Delhi, Dubai and Singapore. Her latest show was at Art Stage Singapore, one of the top five Art Fairs in the world, showing with artists like Picasso and Joan Miro, in January 2016. The Guggenheim Museum in New York also has five of her drawings. Through these showcases, the artist feels that her mental mobility is seamlessly connected with her inspiration to understand feelings and experiences as she travels through cities. In her frequent travels, she feels that her art and exhibitions on a global platform, find solid ground in a tumultuous yet mystifying world.

Having consistently gained recognition in art from a very young age, her ambition gained momentum and direction naturally and easily which accorded her a reputation as a successful artist.

Her desire to excel in her profession has been influenced by an impeccable lineage apart from the famous artists. When she grew up in a family of achievers, in other spheres of life, her drive to do the same was enhanced immeasurably.
